When the gunshots rang out, Katie kept to herself, not wanting to make her presence known. But the man who fired the gun was coming into the ruins of the library, and he had a handful of those walkers with him. Katie knew that this was the time to get out while she still could, being cornered in this place wasnt going to be happening today, this wouldnt be her tomb so long as she could help it. Quickly dipping through the broken peices of stairway, she climbed up onto the second floor, hoping that the stone layout would hold her weight, and she could slip out through the back without the man even knowing she was here.
~~
In the distance, the scope of a rifle trained through the dark corners of the ruins, and seen the girl make her way through a narrow crack in the building wall. She was out of the clear, but the RPD officer didnt have it so easy. The group of infected ravenged their way deeper into the ruins, few falling from the potshots that the pistol fired, downing them at a slow pace. The man knew what he was doing, that was for sure, the show was entertaining to say the least. But after a few minutes, the scope zoomed in a little more, and several quieter gunshots popped off from the distance. They ripped through the infected, silent rounds thinning out the crowd to make it easier for the officer to get out of the ruins alive. It was easy for the photojournalist, because of her small build. But the only way this guy was getting out was the way he came in, and would need to clear out the infected first, with or without the snipers help.

"S***." Daniel cursed under his breath. He had really screwed up this time. For every zombie he killed, it seemed as if it was quickly replaced by two more. He pulled the trigger once more, only to hear the sound of a hopeless click, his magazine was empty. Just as one of the zombies charged towards him, it was met with a near-silent death, as an unexpected bullet sent its body crashing to the ground. Taking advantage of this moment, Daniel dropped the magazine from his handgun, and replaced it with a fresh one. By the time he had reloaded, the rest of the zombies were dead, all of them. Looking around, he found not a trace of evidence to where the savior may have been. 'Maybe they're still watching. he thought, and waved a sign of thanks before continuing his search of the ruins.
After walking down several twists and turns inside of the ruins, he stumbled across an interesting find: footprints. Determining that they were recent led him to believe that someone else had been in the building with him. Curiously, he followed the footprints, and he was led up the stairs to the second floor, where they were abruptly cut off at the stonewall. Judging by the size of the crack, he envisioned the escapist to have been a small woman. It could have also been a teenager, but during the apocalypse, most teenagers had learned to follow gunfire, as it usually led to someone who could help them out. Whoever it was, it was apparent that they had been avoiding him. "Whatever," he thought, "whoever it was is long gone by now." No longer wanting to waste anymore time in the ruins, he walked back to his cruiser.

It was the first time that he had used a gun in a long time, and was surprised at how good his aim was. He knew that there wasnt any infected in the building, as he was inside it for hours now. Felt as if it was his job to watch the helicopter, whether his presence be known or not. It was better in the long run if he kept himself away from the world, but that didnt mean protecting the people that needed to live was a farcry. The cop, on the other hand, that was just his little way of saying hello. Anybody who still treckked around Raccoon City wearing the Uniform deserved a chance live, even moreso than a lot of other people around. With that, it maybe he should introduce himself to the outside world once more, even if its just to let him know that he wont put a bullet in his head next.
On the way through the halls and down the steps, he loaded up the single magazine he had for his rifle, a long process, but it was something he could do very quickly. He had spare or two just in case, but the loose bullets needed to be used up, reload while it was clear. As he got to the street level, he seen the squad car, and slowly walked over to it, admiring its condition. Wasnt to be taken as a sign that he wanted to steal it or anything, personally he moved much faster on foot, especially in the city or anywhere there is a lot of obsticales. Vaulting up onto the roof of the car, his hood raised over his head, he put on his pair of gunglasses, even though it was almost pitch dark outside. As the police officer got to the care, the newcomer spoke out in a calm but serious tone. "You seen it too, huh? In the last two months, ive only seen about three leaving this city, but one of them always came back."

Catching him off guard, Daniel did a quick turn to see that someone had been waiting for him. Daniel assumed that he had planned on catching him off guard for intimidation, so he acted as if he wasn't surprised. "Are you referring to the chopper?" he replied. "Yeah, I saw it." Daniel took notice of the rifle the figure was carrying. "I take it you're my hero? he asked. Mystery shrouded whoever it was he was talking too. Not only was the person standing in the shadows, but he was also hooded, and topped-off with a pair of sunglasses in the middle of night. Perhaps his intention was to simply meet the person he had met, Daniel didn't know what he wanted. He believed that if whoever it was wanted to kill him, then he probably would've offed him in the library.
Getting back to the business at hand, Daniel opened the door to the car, before turning back towards the mysterious person. "I'm going to be heading back onto my patrol around this part of the city. Do you happen to need a ride anywhere?" he offered. Figuring that he owed his savior one, it wasn't that big of a problem for him to give him a lift. It would help him avoid getting back to patrol, that was for one. "I'm Daniel, by the way." he put his hand out for a shake.

Anybody that was willing to introduce themselves first was instantly up there on the list of trustworthy people. There wasnt much meaning to a name these days, but the way the officer spoke, it was assuring that he meant well. Since the dawn of the dead heads, trust was something that needed to be earned, and just by offering a ride told him that this man Daniel could be trusted. The officers of the Raccoon City Police Department highed up on his list, from both personal experience and the effort they put into helping people in the city. Even though the apocalypse, they did their duty, and most of them even died in the process. Interestingly enough, he wasnt part of the BSAA, which told him that Daniel had specific goals in mind.
At first, he wasnt very interested in going with him, but its been too long since he last encountered any human beings face to face. Things would go well, he was sure of it. "Alright, ill ride with you. Arc is what people call me, the name I usually go by. Are there a lot of other RPD members left in the city? I dont recall seeing any, but I havent nearly explored the entire scape yet. So many people still fighting to stay live these days, its hard to hold onto anything." As if to prove a point, a number of more infected showed up, and Arc wanted to avoid another combat. Saved ammunition, and less chance of getting involved up close and personal. Getting into the passenger seat, he spoke out again. "Lead the way..." It was good that the two trusted eachother, everything went a lot smoother in the long run when they did. If not, couldnt blame him, the world was filled with those looking to kill for survival. Willing and just flat our killing are two completely different things.

Climbing into the passenger seat of his vehicle, he turned to whom he know knew as Arc. "Arc?" he asked. "Well, that's a strange name, but whatever floats your boat, I guess." he said with a chuckle. He started the car up, and began to drive down the dust-filled streets. When Arc asked him whether or not there had been many officers left in the city, thoughts of all his friends who were killed in the start of the second outbreak flowed through his mind. It angered him to think how someone could create something that would cause as much destruction and chaos as the T-Virus did. He shook his head. In time, he would avenge his fallen brethren, but for now, he had to focus back on the situation at hand.
"Well, officers were given the option on whether they wanted to stay or leave. The city wouldn't just force them stick around and watch their family die, along with themselves." he said. "Some officers, myself included, had nothing left to lose. We decided that we'd stick around the city to help get everyone out of the city safely. After almost a week, three-fourths of the original group who had stayed behind died at the hands of these creatures roaming the streets. Now, almost everyone who had stayed behind is dead, minus me and few others. The city is now filled with more members of the military than cops by now. I think they mean no harm, but the bunch of them can be real jerks." a hint of anger could be discovered in his voice. "The time here has been rough, but I've enjoyed saving the few lives I can during my time here. Had I not stayed here, I'm not sure what I would've done with myself. Haven't got anywhere to go."
With a gloomy sigh, Daniel continued driving down the street. "Is there anywhere you wanted to go?"

Listening to Daniels story put memories into his own head. It noble of the officers to stay and fight, to protect and serve til the very end. To be able to die in the line of duty was something that not everybody had the honor of attaining, especially with the wreck of the city. If Arc died, there would be a lot more to lose than just his life, others would die as well. The situation he got them into, and he needed to stick around long enough to finish what he started. He took it all a day at a time, rushing never got anybody anywhere, rome wasnt built in a day, but it fell in the blink of an eye.
When the man asked if there was anywhere he needed to go, Arc spoke out. There was plenty of things left on his list in Raccoon City, but only a few of the tasks seemed like a good idea with Daniel. "Theres an estate outside of Raccoon City, past the forest. Belonged to the Jeffersons at one time, thats where im headed. Ive a can of gas stashed away if your low, so dont worry about wasting fuel, this ones on me. Circular River Community, im sure you know how to get there. The main highway is wrecked with cars, so it would be best to take the off ramp past Arklay Ridge, if you dont know already."
This task was more of a personal favor to a friend of his, not exactly something that needed to be done, but something he felt the need to do anyways. Its not like Daniel would get the short end of the stick, because the Estate is still full of supplies, unless the place is overrun by survivors. Its doubtful though, the place was pretty ransacked when he last saw it. "Only an hour out of the way, and its a good place to stay the night, away from the city. If your not interested, just tell me now, wouldnt blame you if you didnt feel comfortable roadtripping with a complete stranger..." There was a reason Arc wasnt skeptical about Daniel, and even if he was, it wouldnt change the fact that this was a good idea in the long run for both of them.

Daniel took Arc's request into consideration. On one side, it would be good for him to get out of the city for a while, he hadn't left the city for what felt like years, but on the other side, it would be an unofficial leave. It took him a few minutes, but he made up his mind. "Ah, what the hell." he said. "It's been a long time since I left the city, I'll take you where you need to go. I'm supposed to be wandering around this side of the city until tomorrow night anyways. he said. On the plus side, it was a great way to pay Arc back for saving his rear back at the library. Taking a turn in the direction needed to go, Daniel thought about it some more. "What's the worst that could happen?" he said, a laugh soon following.
Figuring that since the two of them were going to be with each other for a while, Daniel took the opportunity to get to know about Arc. "So Arc, tell me about yourself." he began. "From what I saw back at the library, you know how to handle yourself with a weapon a lot better than the average civilian. With skills like that, I would assume that you're probably an ex-sharpshooter for the marines, or maybe a sniper for some black ops team." he hoped he didn't upset Arc with his questioning of him. From the moment Daniel had laid eyes on him, he felt a mysterious aura around Arc. He didn't know how to explain it, it was... interesting to say the least. Maybe it was just just the hood and glasses getting to him, Daniel didn't know. He just wanted to feel a little more at ease with the person he was going to be working with for the night.
-Daniel and Arc are now leaving the Library Ruins-
