Cold anger surged through her as she contemplated Artemis's words, she had heard of such things, believed them to be probably true, but to have it confirmed still enraged her. she nodded in conformation of Artemis's new intel, and they proceeded up into the labs, several stairs taking them up. When they got to level 13 the acrid smell of burnt meat greeted them, and when they got to the door that led to level 14, the smell had intensified. hacking the doors leading to lvl14 they quickly gained entry, and were greeted by the sight of incinerated and blackened corpses as well as broken auto turrets obviously made with flamethrowers. "looks like we know what burned the bodies." Joanna said pointing to one of the flamethrower turrets, "What im more interested in is what destroyed them, they look like shredded swiss cheese."

Artimes nodded as she stepped into the hallway. She eyed the bodies and then looked to the destroyed machinery in the hallway. She looked around the room and in the direction of the burned bodies. “It looks like what ever did this was rather smart. Probably used the others as bait in order to take out the weapons.” A moan caught her attention and directed them up the hall. There were no walkers freely roaming the hallway, but that meant that they were secured within the rooms they had to check.
A loud roar caused her to look up the hallway. Soon following the sound was something beating against a door up the hall. Artimes motioned for Joanna to follow as she carefully moved down the hallway. She reached the door just as the beating stopped. Waiting until Joanna was ready she pushed open the door and entered ready to fire. Except there was nothing in there except for a mangled and torn walker. Its arm lay across the room along with a leg, the torso rested against the wall, but the head was missing. She looked back at the walls motioning to the claw marks. Moving further in she could see a mangled grate that lead to a ventilation system. “Whatever it is can move through the vents, and is a quick killer.”

Joanna sighed, "There's always something in the damn vents huh." spying a security console she quickly bypassed its security, turning on the security cameras. with that the multitude of blood splattered screens flickered to life. most showed only white noise, others showed rooms and hallways covered in bloodstains and mutilated bodies. and one... "Gotcha! Artemis, I found them."

Artimes lifted up her UMP and headed for the door when Joanna pointed out her sisters location. “Humans we can deal with,” she said as she opened the door and looked down the hall. “But a serious question is why are they still here when they could have abandoned this place leaving her for dead.” She walked over to the window front looking down at the city below as a steady rain began to fall. Looking around the hall she found the fire hose roll that was mandatory for any building over ten feet tall. Taking the hose she unrolled it to the last part, and then tied the end around the metal frame.
Aiming her UMP at the glass window she fired several rounds shooting out the glass. She removed the scope from her rifle and walked to the edge. Wrapping the hose around her wrist allowed her to lean out her entire body length. Using the scope as a monocular she scanned the windows above then noticing the last floor before the roof seemed clear of the undead, and was more human focused than anything else. She smiled, before scanning what she could of the roof. The tip of the chopper was easy to make out in the rain, but the bodies on the roof were a bit harder. She pulled herself inside and looked at Joanna.
“The roof has chopper if we need it to escape, but it also looks like the last floor is where we are going. It seems clear of the undead, but from the few guards I seen patting around they are heavily armed.” Moving down the hall she stopped and looked at the smaller vent before looking back at Joanna. “I’m also betting patient zero is up there. I highly doubt they would leave something like that down here.” She continued forward toward the stairs scanning the stairwell before she fully opened it. “I suggest we hit the roof first, and then make our grand entrance through the side windows. From what I could see they are waiting for us.”

"they knew we were coming. not surprising to be honest." moving up to the roof, they stopped at the door. it was of sturdy construction, they would have to use explosives. after setting up a breaching charge quietly Joanna used her see-snake to look under the door. "damn, there's about 2 dozen guys out there, they must really want us dead." after thinking for a few seconds she decided, "there's too many for a breach and clear, ill wire this up so it trips when they try to open it, and we'll assault the room they are holding patient zero and your sister in." after setting up a tripwire system to the door, along with an extra couple of fragmentation explosives, they both went down to where they were holding patient zero and Artemis's sister.

Artemis leaned against the door listening closely. Hearing nothing she slowly opened the door into a long hallway with offices on both sides. Moving down the hall they checked each one before coming to another. She leaned up against the door. She could hear voices. Smiling lightly she reached for the door but found it locked. Sighing a bit she stepped away from the door. “They don’t seem to want to make the trap easy to get to.” She shrugged her shoulders as she put her hand on Joanna’s shoulder and escorted her down the hall. Removing her rifle she sat it down on the floor and motioned for Joanna to step into the side room. “Stay ready I want to take out as many as possible before we hit that door.” She pulled out a grenade and pulled the pin throwing it at the door.
She laid down on the ground and set the rifle up on the stand as the grenade exploded. Dust and debre filled the air. Taking aim through the site as the first bit of smoke cleared she fired. Even as the gunfire from the other room filled the hall it was aimed to high. She fired again and again. Each bullet hitting its target even with the smoke in the air. As the air started to clear with her targets having better cover she was forced to leave her rifle and take cover in the side room across from Joanna. “That was fun, and that room is a lot bigger than I expected,” she shouted over the gunfire. She peaked around the side as she pulled out her UMP. “There not in the center, and I didn’t see any possible ricotta points. So feel free to unload your weapon,” she called out as she returned fire on the group.

Joanna was about to reply when a deeper gunfire opened up and the doorway started to become like swiss cheese. she Pulled artemis away just before holes opened up where she was. "A fifty Cal! they really dont like us!" Lying on the floor she peeked down the hall, the .50cal was just in front of the window, the other gunmen she could see seemed to be closer, they had fortified the room with defences facing them. "there's no way we're getting through with that .50 chucking lead down our way." Suddenly there was a very loud bang coming from up stairs, the tripwire had been activated, what was left of the gunmen on the roof would be coming down soon. She looked around, the side room had a window wall. she went to it, shooting out the window closest to the wall on their side. looking outk she saw that the room they were trying to get into was right next door. it was a L shaped room. She suddenly had an idea.
She switched to her grappeling gun and, leaning out of the window, fired the grappling hook at their corner of the roof. After making sure it would hold she Looked at Artemis, "Im going to swing around to flank them, when Ive got control of the Fifty come charging in!" backing up a bit and deathgripping the rope, She sprinted towards the blownout window and launched herself into the void.
As she swung around the building she unloaded her M6 through the windows into the gunmen shooting at Artemis, when she neared the end of her swing she shot out the window in front of her before letting go of the rope and rolling into the room, coming up with her pistol and double tapping the guy on the fifty. She quickly sprinted towards it, shoving the now dead gunner off it before unloading on the rest of the gunmen. "Artemis, NOW!"

Artemis nodded to no one in particular as she ran out of the room. She snatched up her now broken rifle knowing it was not going to work, but the good parts could always be used for something else especially if she confiscated another rifle down the road. She heard the door behind her open up and the gunfire unload behind her. At times she was grateful that her mind slowed things down so she could gain better perspective of things, but she also hated how long things seemed to last. She felt the impact to her back that sent her flying to the ground, but didn’t stop her. She rolled to the side of the door frame and sat up with her last grenade in hand. She pulled the pin and tossed it down the hall before climbing to her feet and moving further into the room as it went off. The screams were short lived, but the gunfire from the survivors indicated that they didn’t care too much about their own lives.
She stood there for a moment and looked down the charred hallway. “Pathetic,” she mumbled as she moved toward Joanna. “If you wouldn’t mind. I think it’s about time we eradicate this roach problem, and get on with the trap they truly intended for us.” She looked down the longer part of the room to see her sister and the young man sitting beside her tied to a chair. “So this is patient zero,” she said as she moved down the hall. She could see her sister squirming in the chair, but the young man just glared at her. His eyes seemed human, but the look held wisdom and hatred that far surpassed his age. “I am Artemis, and that . . . .”
“I know who you are,” he spoke interrupting her. “An please don’t give me crap about your hear to help us. For people who work for Umbrella no one is safe and no one is here to help.” He growled as he looked at Susan. “She’s told me everything about you and your little endeavors.”
“You don’t speak like a person of your age,” she growled as she looked at Susan. “How long have you known.”
“Since I woke up in the hospital,” Susan growled as she looked at Artemis. “YOU MURDER! You took everything from me TWICE!”
Artemis nodded as she pulled out her knife causing her to squirm. She walked around the chairs and cut the ropes. “Either way it goes. I don’t care who I’ve work or worked for. My priority and it has always been protecting your ass,” she said as she walked back to Joanna. “The US government wants patient zero, and that is who she works for,” she said pointing to Joanna. “How’s the hall coming with your new toy?”

"just about finished the remodelling!" Joanna said, grinning ferociously, after a few more seconds of non-stop firing, she stopped to survey her work. the hallway was completely wrecked and the entire wall at the end of the hall had been obliterated, revealing a canvas of blood and broken bodies that was the aftermath of her playing with her new 'toy'. "Man, Im so glad I don't have to clean up this place." she said to Artemis, walking towards the two freed prisoners. the young mans eyes were still filled with hatred, but also with a little confusion. now that she had her outburst, Artemis's sister was trembling with fear and emotional exhaustion.
As she reached for her waist, the two cringed, until she took out her canteen from its holder and tossed it to patient zero. they both looked to her in confusion. "Drink up, we'll be moving out shortly." she said, reloading her m6 and checking it over. Patient zero looked at the canteen, and gave it to artemis's sister, who drank greedily. "I dont know who you are or why your really here," he said to joanna, "but your partner is an umbrella operative, so why should I trust you or anything you say?" Joanna looked at him, his eyes were serious. 'Artemis is right,' she though,'he does sound older than he looks.' "It doesn't matter what I say alexander, your going to distrust me anyway, same with Artemis over there." she gestured towards Artemis, "My orders are to get you out of this place alive, and thats what im going to do. you can either come with me of your own accord, or I can knock you out and carry you over my shoulder. either way, I get my paycheck." she looked at susan, "you however, are an entirely different matter Susan." She cringed and started to back away, "Getting you out alive is a personal favour to your sister. She was recently betrayed by Umbrella, and is willing to come into BSAA custody IF you are rescued and placed under protection." She stopped and looked at her, then artemis, her face filling with confusion. Joanna looked back to Patient zero, "So whats it going to be Alexander, knocked out and carried, or save yourself the headache later and come with us willingly?"
He stared at her for a few seconds, then reached for the canteen susan was holding. "Okay, Ill go with you, I hope Im not being a total idiot here." he took a few gulps before handing it back to joanna, who took a quick gulp before putting it back in its pouch. "So who are you anyway?" he asked. "My name is Joanna Lupo, callsign Fury. Im a mercenary employed by the BSAA north american branch."
just then, her and Artemis's headset squakked, "Joanna, do you read!?" it was Carmen. "yeah, I read you, go ahead." "We just picked up what looks like an attack chopper heading your way. I would get out of there if I were you." "Roger, thanks for the heads up." Joanna looked at Artemis, "Okay, lets get out of here."
Suddenly, the entire building shook with multiple explosions, making Joanna almost lose her balance and patient zero and susan lose theirs entirely. "what the hell!?" she exclaimed, a second later, the seal team leader came over the radio. "Fury, we're outside, those explosions you just felt took out about half of the support pillers! we've beem trying to contact you but our radio's were being jammed while inside the building."
"copy that, get clear of the building." she looked up at artemis, "we wont make it if we go down, the Chopper on the roof's our only option."

Artemis looked at Joanna and then to the hallway. The only escape would be right into a trap. She grinned slightly as she looked back at the others. They didn’t need patient zero alive all they needed was his blood. “So this was their true trap,” she mumbled under her breath. She walked to the window looking out and sure enough the in the distance the unmistakable lights from another chopper was making its way to them. She looked around the room, but to her dismay there was no rifle that she could use once on the chopper of their own. She looked back at Joanna “To the roof we go, and were going to be out gunned,” she said as she took point and made her way down the devastated hall. “Remind me to ask you over to remodel my home,” she grinned as she looked back at Joanna.
As they reached the stairwell the building shook violently shifting slightly. She grabbed the railing and started making her way to the roof. “The building is leaning on an outer wall. There’s no way it will last much longer.” Reaching the top of the stair well the charred remains of bodies were the indications of Joanna’s handy work from earlier. With her UMP she scanned the roof top before motioning the group forward. “Joanna take the chopper,” she said as she walked over to her. “I got an idea to get us out of here. Let me have two of your flash grenades.” With those in hand she made her way to the edge of the roof. Using the two grenades she rigged them with her trip wire and dragged the wire back to the chopper. She knelt down outside of the open door and looked at Joanna. “Don’t take off till I say so, and keep your eyes closed until I tell you.”
She waited until the chopper got closer the gun already firing upon the roof. She cursed as the rubble started to rain down around them. She waited until the chopper was closer before she closed her eyes and turned her head. She pulled one wire, and three seconds later the resounding explosion rang her ears along with her eye lids lighting up. She opened her eyes and looked up to the chopper as the pilot tried to gain control. She tied the last wire to run on the chopper and climbed in. A two feet and three seconds later the second flash bang would go off. “Take off,” she called to Joanna. “Head straight and close your eyes again.” The explosion wasn’t as ear shatter with a little distance as it was on the roof. She opened her eyes and looked back to the even more disoriented chopper. “That has got to suck. It won’t last long so we have to make some distance.”

looking back at the flailing attack chopper, Joanna was impressed at Artemis's quick thinking. "yeah, 2 consecutive flashbang's really does suck." she said as she opened the helicopters throttle the hole way, which currently wasn't much at the current time. when the building finally started falling down, Joanna took a quick glimpse of the spectacle, whistling as she saw the side show, "But that suck's even more." she had seen that the attack chopper had finally regained his sight and had been coming towards them, unfortunately for him during his blind flails he had gone below the building edge on the side the building was falling from. the chopper was hit by about 2 tonnes of concrete and exploded, the flaming wreckage becoming almost impossible to see alongside the rest of the falling building.
"okay, it looks like we might be in the clear."

Artemis nodded with a sigh of relief. She reached between Susan and Alexander for the rifle that hung above their heads. She watched slightly out of the corner of her eye and Susan flinched. Unlatching the rifle she leaned back in the seat that was closes to the pilot. “I wouldn’t say that Umbrella or Tricell will let us off that easily,” she pointed out. Though it was obvious from the way Joanna concentrated on her flight path that she already knew that as well. She shook her head as she started dismantling her broken rifle before pausing at a piece she didn’t recognize. She recognized the piece that surrounded it, but not on the inside. This part of the rifle if it was ever broken had to be completely replaced so they never tore the casing off to find out what was inside. Lifting the piece up she studied it slightly before realizing what it was.
“Oh I can’t believe I was so stupid,” she barked as she flung the side of the chopper door open. She took the busted rifle and all its shattered parts and threw it out the door. “Joanna lands this thing. I’ve got a major problem!” She couldn’t believe that she was stupid enough to go this far with Joanna and not even get rid of any of her Umbrella equipment. Now that she thought about it she wondered just how far Kyle would have gone to make sure she met her end even if she escaped. She was cursing herself as she started to strip her equipment. She sat the UMP down on the bench seat knowing well enough it didn’t come from Umbrella, and then she turned back to the open door stripping her vest and tossing it. She then started to work her way down from the knives in her sleeves, the two hidden guns in her shirt, a hidden gun in her beltline, two guns and two knives strapped to her legs, and the hidden gun and two hidden blades within her boots. Very helpful equipment, but also belonging to Umbrella and they were also probably bugged as well with tracking devices.
She didn’t know if her clothes were bugged as well, but she would need Joanna’s help to check that out as well. She reached back for the UMP when she heard the sound of heavier rotter blades. She looked out the door as a rocket was fired at them. With Joanna’s quick maneuvering they managed to miss the rocket, but the explosion shook the cabin forcing her to catch herself before taking a dive out the door. This was a simple chopper and didn’t have weapons enough to fight something like that, but it did have speed on its side. She reached over for the rifle. “Try to avoid it as best you can, but also try to hold it steady.” She put her foot out on the run before bracing herself against the frame of the door.
“What are you doing?” Susan shouted as she clutched onto Alexander.
“Someone has to help Joanna keep the group alive, and it doesn’t seem like you’re going to be that person.” Artemis lifted the rifle to her shoulder and peered through the scope. She had to take a double look, but knew well enough the logo that sat on the chopper. “There Umbrella!” she called as she pulled the trigger. As the bullet flew it hit its mark, but nothing happened to the chopper windshield. She fired again and again, but still nothing happened. “That’s a problem.”
(sorry about that as well. was working hard and planning for my HS Reunion @_@ I can't believe it's been 10 years already)

Joanna was lucky to see the rocket before it was too late, swerving just in time to barely dodge it and only feel the pressure wave. she quickly set the throttle speed to maximum and raced between. she initially kept the chopper steady for Artemis, but it quickly dawned on her, and Joanna, that none of the weapons on the helicopter could even hope to penetrate its armor. swerving between buildings, she quickly began to think up solutions to this problem. It looked like there were only two options; get everyone else out of the helicopter and use it to ram the enemy Helo, getting out at the last minute, OR, have Carmen come and set a trap.
She decided on the 2nd.
"Carmen! are you in the air!?" she shouted in her com-bead. "Yeah Joanna were in the sky, what you got for us?" "Umbrella attack Chopper, none of our guns are making a dent! we need the Osprey's firepower! track our signal and home in on us, were going to give this bastard a lethal surprise!" "copy that Fury, your the bait, Im the hunter. see you soon."
she quickly looked back at the 3 in the back, "Better buckle up, Its gonna be a wild ride from here on out!"

Artemis climbed back into the chopper and closed the door. She took her seat once more and fastened the strap. It seemed a bit out there that Kyle would send an attack chopper after them. He seemed to be the type of person who chose stealth and sending one person in rather than a team. She laughed at the thought of him sweating about her survival. It only made her thought of wanting to meet him face to face even sweeter. She would look forward to that day, but for the time being her sister’s survival was priority. Turning in her seat she looked out the window to see the city before them. The chopper shook violently as Joanna maneuvered to miss another missile.
“Your friends don’t seem to like you,” Susan said as she clung to Alexander’s arm. “They don’t even seem to trust you.”
She couldn’t help but smile as she looked back to her sister. “Well what do you think? I had to slaughter my enter class just to pass the exam,” she said as she turned to look back out the window. “I was raised and trained to kill. To be the perfect assassin to the higher ups of Umbrella. From day one when our mother betrayed me I tried everything to get away from her abusive nature.”
“Lies! She wasn’t abusive!”
Artemis couldn’t help but laugh. “Yeah to you. She wanted you. All I happened to be was an excuse to get back to the man she lusted over.” She smiled as she caught site of Joanna’s friends. She looked back at the others. “Brace yourselves.”
She leaned against the wall feeling the chopper shake again as another rocket exploded closer to them. She turned to watch out the side window as two rockets sored past them in the direction of the Umbrella chopper. There was a loud explosion causing the chopper to shake even more than the times before. Outside the night sky seemed to light up almost like it was day time for only a brief second, and as the chopper made its way back toward the military base the faint sound of falling debre echoed in the air. Artemis turned back toward Joanna in order to see the base coming into view.
“You really do have your way with weapons,” she said as she unbuckled. As the chopper sat down she threw open the door and climbed out. She offered her hand to Susan to help her out, but she only slapped it away. She smirked a bit as she walked around the chopper to meet Joanna. “So by the attack chopper. I think Kyle is a little upset that were alive.”
She looked back as the Commander walked up to them. “Good work, but I didn’t expect you to bring down half of Vegas with you.”
“Are your men okay?” Artemis asked as she looked past him to Susan as she followed another soldier into one of the buildings.
The Commander grinned for a moment before looking serious again. “I didn’t take you to be one who cared about other human beings.” He couldn’t help but laugh at the glare he received. “All me are safe and accounted for. Though . . .” he paused as he looked her over. “You seemed to have lost quite a bit of weight along the way.”
“Still working on that. With my busted rifle I noticed that it had a tracking device.” She looked back toward him. “I ditched what I could for saty precautions. Knowing Umbrella they my have bugged everything. I’m still not done. The clothes have got to go too, but I don’t plan on walking around naked.” She walked past him. “I have a bit more dignity than that.”
“Knowing Umbrella you may also have a tracking devise in you,” he pointed out.
Artemis stopped for a moment and looked at him before looking back to Joanna. “An what do you think about all this?” she asked her.

Joanna didnt even have to think about it, personal history dictated her response.
"Both Umbrella and Tricell doesn't mess around, you, Susan and Alexander will have implanted tracking devices." she turned towards the base commander, "Commander, do you have any HERF guns on base?" He nodded, "yes, we have a few in the armoury." he turned towards Artemis, "If we use the HERF guns you wont have to get changed, their like Hand-held Directional EMP emitters."
After a couple of minutes of waiting, some soldiers finaly came back with the HERF guns and started "shooting" Artemis, Susan and Alexander. after the soldiers finished, Joanna handed Artemis her sniper rifle, a Desert Tactical Arms SRS-A1 (Stealth Recon Scout A1) in .338 Lapua Magnum.
"You can have this till you can get a replacement."
