Artemis looked at Joanna before patting her clothes down herself more or less out of comfort. “Well that’s actually reassuring. Kind of wish we would have thought about that beforehand. It would have made it a bit easier to leave that place.” She shrugged her shoulders as she took the weapons from Joanna and followed the commander into the base. He had two soldiers take Susan and Alexander to another part of the base while he led Joanna and Artemis into a briefing room. “To be honest I am quite surprised about your set up even if this outbreak here is just starting.”
“The government likes to stay informed of things, and when we heard Tricell had set up camp in Vegas we outfitted our bases to stand a bit more and deal even more damage.” He motioned for them to have a set before he sat down in front of them. “We are setting a plane for your departure. Alexander, Susan, and some of my soldiers will be on it with you two. There taking of in a few hours, enough for the two of you to rest and gather up equipment. They will be taking you up north to the more frozen parts of the world. There the only places we can figure the virus in the undead can’t survive for some reason.”
“It’s not that it can’t survive,” Artemis said as she fiddled with the pen in front of her. “The virus goes dormant. The cold is like hibernation to it. Certain cold temperatures can kill it only if it hasn’t had the chance to adapt. Drop the temperature too cold to fast and it puts it into a hibernate sleep. Heat can incubate the virus and cause it to spread faster. That’s why those who are affected and keep moving around spread the virus faster. It’s not the adrenalin causing it to spread quicker through the body, but the rise in the body’s temperature.”
He nodded for a moment before looking down at his paper. “That’s actually helpful information. I’ll inform out other post that even with the frozen dead there is still a possibility of the virus.”
“Even if there wasn’t that should have been a precaution from the beginning.”
“I don’t know about your Umbrella family and there dead rituals, but we here tend to see light and give the families bodies they can see before they bury them.” He growled before standing up. “Not every soldier wants to return home in a casket with their head blown off.” He headed for the door and stopped to look back. “You two can relax until the plane is ready. Reaper I highly advise you keep that tid bit to yourself, and try to keep to yourself. We will not be held responsible for what happens to you on this base.” With that he walked out the door.
Artemis sighed a bit before she stood up. “I think I upset him.” She shrugged her shoulders as she leaned against the desk. “I seem to be getting good at really ****ing people off without the need to kill them in the process,” she said with a grin.

Joanna chuckled, "Yeah, you seem to have a knack for it." putting both arms above her head she flexed her back, audibly cracking it. "thankfully that was one of the easier rescue ops i've done, if it had been one of the harder ones, im not sure we could have gotten out with your sister unscathed." seeing the skeptical look from artemis, she grinned, "the toughest op I ever did was busting myself out of an Umbrella facility after being held prisoner and tortured for a month." seeing the shocked look on artemis, she raised one eyebrow, "what, you didnt know? surely you heard about the prisoner who busted out of that facility in Sierra Leone, bringing along the head scientist as a prisoner."

Artemis sighed as she followed Joanna toward the break room. Of course she heard. There was very little she didn't know about when she was playing Kyle's guard dog. She shook her head as she opened the door for Joanna to enter before following after her. It seemed that every time she turned around a lot of the problems Umbrella was having came from the individual right in front of her. Though she found it rather amusing to finally meet the person who kept causing so much trouble with Joanna. Though she didn't know if she should have told her that after that incident the facility needed a whole knew breed of guards, and she was the one to put the others down. Failures weren't an option within Umbrella and she was usually the one to carry out the punishments. She sighed a bit as she sat down in a recliner.
"You are something else," she said lightly as she looked up at Joanna. "A troublesome pest that I've admired for quite some time, and I finally have got to meet you." She laughed slightly as she relaxed a bit more in the chair. "I should have kept a scrap book of all your troubles with Umbrella and got you to sign it." She looked up at Joanna. "Your like a superhero to the BSAA," she laughed.

Joanna chuckled a little before her face became grim with bone-deep sadness as she started seeing her dead loved ones.
"I didnt become like that without suffering first. As I said before, I have lost almost everything because of Umbrella." she looked up at Artemis, "My mother and I were the only survivors of that facility in Western Australia in '89. Umbrella sent a USS hit squad after us when she reported our survival." She leaned back on the chair, still looking at Artemis, "I watched my mother being murdered right in front of me, the only reason Im still alive is because a band of mercenaries was close enough to hear the shots and came to investigate. I begged them to teach me, and they did, everything they knew." "we became a family, and once the BSAA started we offered our services to the north american branch, becoming instructors and hired operatives." "on one operation, we were betrayed by a member of the BSAA high brass who was selling information to Umbrella, and walked straight into an ambush. everyone died in front of me." she lifted her necklace so Artemis could see them, every one of her dead families dog tags. "I completed the mission and exposed the traitor, but my family, my brothers in arms, were still dead."
replacing her necklace, she kept looking towards Artemis, "Last year, in that facility in Sierra Leone, I was tortured for a month before I escaped, you already know this, but what you probably don't know is that they scarred my Uterus heavily, just for laughs. I can no longer become a biological parent." "I nearly lost my sanity after that. It took a whole month of psychological therapy when I got back to come back from that, and even then, I still feel like Im not completely sane."
A sad smile showed on her face, "strange, Ive only ever talked about all that with my psychologist.

Artemis couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty after listening to Joanna. She sighed a bit before standing up. She walked over to the pool table and leaned up against it. Here she only went this far to be better than her mother to get revenge for the horrible life she was forced into. She hated her mother with a passion enough that she was the one to shoot her sister in front of her in order to make her mother suffer before she killed her. She never regretted anything she did in her past, and even to this day she didn’t regret it. Though listening to Joanna she couldn’t help but feel guilty that the company she had worked for had ruined her life.
She looked back at Joanna. “I don’t know what to say,” she said lightly.
“Of course you wouldn’t,” Susan said as she walked into the room holding several bottles of water. “You’ve never seen anyone you cared for die in front of you, so how would you know what she has gone through,” she growled before walking over and sat a bottle of water down in front of Joanna. “I know apologizing about your loss won’t be enough, but if it’s any consolation I am so sorry you’ve had to suffer by those horrible people.” She looked up and growled at Artemis as she returned a glare. “What?”
Artemis shook her head as she turned around to look at the pool table. “What would you know?” How would she know what she herself had to suffer through at the end? She really cared for Devin. He had taken a lot to train her and they had become close enough that she wanted to work harder to be able to take his place in order for him to finally be with his family. In the end though she had taken one of his daughter’s lives, his wife, and his life. He was probably the closest anyone has ever come to be her friend, and then there was her father no doubt dead by now. She didn’t doubt that Kyle would have found out by now what he had done for her. Of course he was dead by now. She turned around to face Susan again this time walking over to her. “What would you know?” she asked again.
Susan trembled slightly before backing away. “You’re nothing but a cold hearted, blood thirsty, killer. You have no remorse for anyone, and you would kill anyone if it would make you happy.”
She stifled a laugh as she headed for the door. “You’re still alive,” she said with a grin. The gasp from her sister was one that amused her. She shook her head. “I need air.” With that she left the room heading outside.
Susan turned back to Joanna and bowed slightly. “I’m so sorry for that. I think you for saving my life, but understand that you don’t have to protect Artemis from others. What happens is what she deserves.” She looked back to the door before looking at Joanna. “Is there anything else I can get you?”

"No, but Id like to tell you a few things that you should know." Joanna told her, indicating the chair opposite her. Susan hesitated for a second before sitting down, confusion showing on her face. "you heard what I told her right?" she asked her, susan nodded in confirmation. "then don't you think that normally I would either clap her in chains or put a bullet in her head?" she nodded again, still confused. "You think that she is a cold blooded killer, a psychopath who enjoys causing suffering?" Susan nodded in conformation, her face fierce. "Then why do you think she spared you when she killed your family, her mother, when she was ordered to kill everyone?" Susan's face became confused again. "Why did she give you to a person who then brought you up, cared for you. In direct Violation of her orders, which if were discovered, she would have been terminated. why did she keep tabs on you, when all it did was endanger her?" Susan was now obviously very confused and was about to say something before Patient Zero came in. "Okay, they've done the checks the base doctors wanted to do, we're free to go."

Susan glared at Joanna as she sat there defending Artemis for some reason. Even though she was given to another family to be taken care of she still lost them to the hands of her sister. Susan was about to say something when the alarms in the base went off. She looked up at the flashing red light in the room, and stood up just as the door opened with a soldier standing in the doorway.
“The base is under attack by BOWs and undead. We have men trying to figure out how they’ve gotten past the security.” He looked around the room. “You’re missing one person.”
“Artemis has stepped out,” Susan said as she stood behind Alexander.
“I see. Then we’ll find her and get her to the plane as well. Your plane is ready to leave.” He turned to look at Joanna. “Your priority is to get Patient Zero out of here.”
“I have a name,” Alexander said.
“Sorry sir, but still. Fury your priority is to get him out of here.” With that he turned and followed several more soldiers down the hallway.
------------------------------------------------ Artemis stood over the fallen body of a Bow. A more simple creature that had been labeled as lickers. Several of them had made their way over the fences like they were no problem after all. That only meant that the power to the fence had been cut off. She looked toward several of the soldiers as they stood by beside her. Two of which she somehow saved when she killed the licker. She sighed a bit as she turned to look toward the plane. Joanna and the others hadn’t come out of the building yet.
“The plane is ready. You should really get on it,” a shoulder shouted as he made his way up to her. “I don’t know how long we can keep the runway clear. We have several choppers ready to evacuate the rest of the soldiers, but our priority . . .”
“Means nothing until those three come out of the building,” Artemis broke in as she started to make her way toward the plane. As another licker moved from the bushes it jumped at her. Without a second hesitation she withdrew a glock she had managed to get her hands on. Aiming with ease she fired two rounds into its head. The creature fell unmoving. “I can handle myself. Just protect your men.”
“Well aren’t you getting soft,” he laughed as he motioned the soldiers around the filled.
Artemis waved her hand in the air as she made her way to the plane. She would make her priority protecting the plane. Without that then they wouldn’t be able to get Susan and Alexander to a safe haven. As she approached the plane she noticed that there was someone messing around the fuel tanks. The closer she got she realized that it was a soldier of the base. She sighed with a bit of relief as she approached the soldier. As he turned around a shot rang out through the air. Artemis stumbled back clutching her side. She dodged behind the wheels of the plane.
“Kyle sends his regards. Though I have to admit that I’m quite surprised to see you without your armor,” he called out as shot at Artemis’ cover.
She readied the glock and turned the corner of the wheel firing all but one round into the man. As he collapsed to the ground she staggered up to him still clutching her side. “Waite in hell for Kyle,” she said as she fired the last round into his head. Cursing under her breath for not even getting a vest from the soldiers earlier. Though that idea was out of the window now. She held up the UMP knowing that until the others arrived she had to keep the plane secure from any more interference including Umbrella.

Joanna quickly led Alexander and susan towards the osprey when she heard gunfire coming from it, looking around she spotted Carmen quickly running towards them, "Thought you were still with the Osprey?!" "No, I was told by some soldier that I had to go to the bloody control tower, I just got back from being told that I was mistaken." Joanna suddenly had a bad feeling, and sprinted towards the Osprey. upon seeing the dead soldier, she sprinted up the ramp to find Artemis with a bullet wound in her side. "Carmen, prep the Osprey for take off! Susan, grab me the med-kit up the front there! Alexander, take her to the casualty bench over there and strap her in!" after watching to see them follow here orders, she went back to the dead soldier and quickly searched him. looking at the most common places she quickly found a Neo-Umbrella identification tattoo. going back into the osprey she hit the ramp controls, making the ramp close. she quickly crossed over to Artemis, and seeing Susan about to say something she quickly butted in, "The soldier had a Neo-Umbrella Identification tattoo on him, obviously a damn infiltrator." Opening the med-kit, she quickly went to work.
Luckily the bullet had missed her intestines and she quickly removed it. Upon further inspection of the wound she determined there were no wounds from hydrostatic shock and no internal hemorrhaging, so she bandaged her quickly. she would still need medical attention from the doctors back at base but she wouldnt die anytime soon. "They guy got the drop on you huh?" she asked Artemis, "I thought that you wouldnt have dropped your guard at all until we got you back at base, and even then."
just then Carmen called them on the internal speakers, "Okay, we're ready to go, hopefully we'll be back at base in a couple of hours."

Artemis looked up as she heard footsteps. Her UMP in hand, but the moment she seen Joanna she let the weapon hang at her side. She allowed Alexander to help her over to the bench in order to lie down. She could feel the plane whirled to life and take off.
