With the alarm beeping, Samantha opened one eye slowly, and stared at the hated thing waking her from a good dream and a restful sleep. Slapping the alarm off, she crawled out of bed and got ready for her day. She had completed all the proper forms, and her training with TerraSave was complete. She was going to be starting a new, exciting job today. Her college years and survival of the Raccoon City "incident" had made this a job she could easily fit into. Cleaning up all of Umbrella's horror stories, and helping people rebuild their lives was something she was going to fit well into.
Showering, getting dressed in a skirt, leggings and a white button up blouse. Simple flats completed her outfit, and she thought it made her look very adult instead of the ratty clothes she had gotten used to wearing as a college student. The last piece of her outfit she left in her purse, her father's Beretta. She'd kept that all these years, and thankfully she couldn't remember the last time she had needed to use it. With this new job, she hoped that didn't change.
Picking up her phone, she dialed for her partner, ready to be picked up.
"Yeah, all set, we can grab breakfast on the run. Don't want to be late my first day right?"

"Great. Im on the road now, ill be there in ten minutes." She responded, clicking off her phone from speaker, and tossing it onto the seat beside her. Madison was a little nervous, as this was her first day as well. Shed been through the training course for two months along-side Samantha and several other students from the same college, but the two hadnt really gotten to know eachother very well, other than the fact they were both going to soon be working in their same field. Madison transferred from Canada to the United States, and it was partway through the year due to her position in staff at a former University. So this was the best time as ever to get to know the one she would be working with.
Aside from being awake a half an hour earlier, Edward was off to his own job around the same time as Samantha. He had offered her a place to stay since graduation, and she kindly accepted it, especially since either of them would be home often anyways. Both of their jobs would take them away for long periods of time, but they always kept in contact, ever since 1998. Both Samantha and Edward were both busy getting ready, and there wasnt a whole lot of time for smalltalk, which made it even more convincing that they were family. Not that they needed to pretend since their makeshift identities werent needed anymore, but their experience and commitment as friends involved in the same survival story made them that way, even though they werent related by blood. "Hey Sam, I see a car pulling up outside."
Madison idled the car in park, waiting in the parking space out in front of the small house. The place wasnt all that hard to find, considering she hadnt even been in the city more then a couple of months. With her music going, Madison tapped the steeling wheel with her fingers, humming along to Track 7 on her CD, waiting for her new partner to come out any. The moment she seen front door open, Madison grabbed for her phone, stuffing it into her pocket, and hitting unlock on the passenger side.

"Alright, stay out of trouble old man. I'll let you know how my first day goes!"
Sam quickly walked to the car, waving as she made her way to the vehicle. She opened the door and got in, buckling up as she rolled down the window and waved as Edward went on to his next case. She would check in on him later and make sure everything was alright before the end of the day, just in case he needed some backup.
"Alright, day one at the new job! Feeling nervous yet?"
She could feel the electricity off her own skin, and she was barely able to keep from bopping around in her seat like an child on a sugar rush. She was going to be working for a company that actually wanted to make a difference, and she could finally start personally sticking it back to Umbrella for everything they had done, and everyone they had hurt.

Madison assumed that it was Sams father, politely waving a bit herself soon as he came into view on the doorstep. It almost seemed like a first day at school, a good start to a first day. Soon as her friend was in the car, if Sam could be thought of as a friend or rather just somebody she was going to be working with, she spoke, almost extactically as the car pulled back onto the road and started along. "Yeah, a little, actually. I mean, training was one thing, but its not like were going right into a mission. Are we?..." That was probably what made her nervous the most, the thought about being first day on the job, and something big happening.
"...Like. I dont have any combat experience, no field experience. I guess you dont either, though. Were both new, going into this whole thing. Im a social worker, and I was a nurse, now im a medic for a big name government assisted company. I just never thought my career would take me here. Dont meant to sound like a chicken sh*t, but ive never seen a BOW in real life before, and id rather not. Not on day one, at least." After realizing she was talking a little too much, Madison focused on driving, and watching the road. The area was still a little new to her, especially different from where she was up in Canada.

"Don't worry, I'm sure they wouldn't be sending us into anything insanely dangerous our first time out. They have plenty of more experienced people for missions like that."
Sam watched the homes around them disappear as they got onto the freeway, heading towards their home office. She wasn't sure what they were going to be reporting into when they got there, but if they were going to assigned anywhere, she had a feeling there wasn't going to be a lot of action, at least not on their first time out in the field.
"Hey, even if we get stuck going somewhere even slightly dangerous our first time out, just stick with me. I know my way around a dangerous situation."

Mixed with the fact that nothing bad ever happens in Canada, or so the teriotypical saying goes, Madison was entertaining the idea of her first assignment going south, her freaking out, and losing her job. Or worse, keeping her job and a scardy cat reputation along with it. But hearing her partner, she was convinced that shed been through something already. No way she was going to ask, but since they were going to be working together for a long time, it would eventually come out if it needed. One of them having more experience than the other is usually how the whole partner thing worked, anyways. "That makes me feel better. One step at a time, though."
The freeway took them to another turnoff, which then lead to a not so busy street surrunded by at least one tall building. The structure in the buildings here on the east coast of the US was similar to the east coast of Canada. Madison almost felt at home, like not a whole lot had changed. One of the larger buildings had quite a few more cars parked in the places across. Having its own lot, this was defeinitely the place. Madison had only been here once before, and it was just over a month ago, so it only looked familiar enough to know it was the right place. Everything after the parking lot was new to her.
Turning the engine off, Madison took a deep breath, preparing herself. It was almost jokingly, to the point where it made herself laugh a little on the inside. The fact she was this intimidated about a job really showed, mainly because it pales in comparison to her last jobs. Treating patients in a hospital for normal wounds was one thing, but what she was going to be encountering might just have been better left for a vetrinarian. The fact they wanted her though, and not a vet, let her know that she was needed. Thats all that mattered.
"So many people here. Do you know anybody?" Madison wasnt good with crowds, especially for somebody who was good with people. If they made friends, it wouldnt be such a bad idea. But if it turned out to just be the two of them for the first assignment, then it wouldnt be too bad. So long as she wasnt alone.

As they pulled into the parking garage, Sam felt a knot in her stomach. It was the first day jitters, nothing she couldn't handle. All she needed to do was focus on getting to their desks, and finding out about their first day assignment. Maybe they would be lucky and it would be local, no travel right off the bat.
"Ha, no. Not unless you counted Ricky our recruiter. I think he just liked checking out a college girl's ass more than anything else. I think we'll be alright though. We just need to get inside and not get lost. Stick with me, I know my way around people."

Madison agreed. It really wasnt a big deal, not yet anyways. Sure, the rate for BOW attacks had been increased, and most of them not even made public until after they were resolved, but theres no way they would throw newcomers into anything dangerous willingly. The first job could have been anything, though judging by her own field of expertise alone, it would have to be something where she would actually be needed, and not just another able body. Telling her to go do some heavy lifting wasnt using her skills, but helping people first hand was.
The lobby was nearly full of people coming and going, but the two women stuck close together, and just went with the flow, only stopped when they came to a large sign posted on the wall. Though the building was nearly six stories tall, their place was only one floor up from ground level, so naturally, Madison went for the elevator. "Excuse me, can I help you?" Caught a little offguard, and maybe even a little embarrest for not being used to way things worked, Madison looked at Sam, and then back to the secritary. "Were uh. Were looking for TerraSave First Recruits offices."
Flipping her attention to the screen in front of her, the women spoke out again. "Your name, please?" Quickly as she asked, Madison responded. "Madison Lockhart. I was transferred about a week ago here." The secritary confirmed that it was where she needed to be, and then asked the same for Sam. "And your name?" It made sense they needed to check-in, and probably wouldnt have been overlooked if it wasnt for her lack of professionalism.

"Samantha Brooks."
Sam gave Madison a friendly nudge, letting her know they had both been caught off guard and would hopefully not be ribbed about it later. She turned her attention back to the secretary, wanting to be friendly towards someone they may have to interact with every time they came into the building.
"Sorry, first time here. Just glad you didn't have to tackle us before we got to the elevator!"

"Thats perfectly alright. Soon as you come out of the elevator, its the first door on your right." Managing to pull off a smile to the secretary, though it might have looked like it came off a little fake, Madison nodded and turned to go inside the elevator. The doors had already been open since previously, they were motion sensored, so would have activated when she walked up to them the first time. As soon they were in, two other people stepped in with them, and Madison hit the L1 button. "I swear, I dont think ill ever get used to the city. Its not like this at all where im from."
Aside from the small chat, once the doors opened up, the same man who Sam talked about had just been coming down the hall, and recognized her. "Ahh, Samantha Brooks. Couldnt have picked a more appropriate time meet again. And you must be Madison Lockhart. Well, the offices are just over there through the double doors. There arent any uniforms for when were actually in here, but youll be assigned a locker once you sign in at your desk. I could stand here and explain everything, but its all on the computers provided. I gotta run, ill see you in a bit." Madison hadnt seen Ricky before, since she had been transferred, but he seemed like an interesting person. And not once they stepped through to the officers, Madison was surprised at how much space they took up. "Our training class wasnt that big, but I didnt expect them to give us our own office space. Look, theres us, in the corner."

"I think we may have just landed the dream job. Come on, let's see what else is waiting for us!"
Sam led Madison to their desks, looking over the company welcome paperwork, and their login information as well as a passkey to their lockers. This was definitely far more than either of them were expecting, and she took the time to pour over everything with barely contained excitement. They really were going to make a difference with this company, she could feel it.
"Let's get all this stuff signed, and then we can meet with our mission director. Looks like we have a few minutes until we are supposed to meet up with him."

It was all simple enough for her, thankfully. Having her own computer made things easier too, and it wasnt something out of date. Even the computers back at her school were out of date. That was the first thing Madison did, sign into her account and see what she had access to. She definitely wasnt some computer whiz, but they always made work much easier, especially when they worked fast and had all been connected in an office like this. Next had been the paperwork, which was really just reading over pages, signing her name in various places. Reading was something she was good at. Her penmenship, not so much, but it was a scribble that nobody else could manage.
Her own keychain had been in her pocket, and the last step had been putting the two given to her on it, one for her locker and one for her drawer. Madison looked up at Sam, who was equally if not more busy than she was, but felt the need to comment. She thought that she was more excited then her. This is really just a job, something she was pretty good at, or at least she hoped. Also something she liked doing, but Madison couldnt help but notice that Sam was a lot more heartful about it. "Why did you join TerraSave? I know its going to eventually be pretty dangerous work, right? What do your parents think of it?" Madison felt like maybe it was a personal question, but they were partners after all.

Sam stopped when Madison spoke, looking up from her paperwork and trying to keep her smile from turning into a frown. This had been a question she had been asked for years, and she still wasn't accustomed to answering it, or the look of pity or shock she received when she did. Putting her paperwork down, she turned and gave Madison her full attention.
"They don't. They both died in Raccoon City in 1998. They're the reason I'm here. All of the people that died, they're the motivation for me being here, for me wanting this job."

It wasnt that Madison didnt care, she really did. It wasnt that she didnt want to show pity toward her, hopefully, new friend. It wasnt even that she wasnt fully aware of the situation completely. It was the fact that this wasnt the place to talk about it, and it soon, she regretted asking, bringing it up altogether. "Youre not just a recruit? That means-" An alarm sounded, and the buzz had cut off Madison mid sentence. The speaker system sounded in the large room they were in, and the television screens displayed a message. This was a different way to make announcements. "Attention. There will be a welcoming speech in the lobby from several of out directors and alliances, followed by a half hour reception in the back wing. Thank you."
Not long after the womans voice stopped, the picture displayed the TerraSave logo, and then the screen shut off. Madison looked back to Sam, and attempted to just move on from the last sentence she spoke, wanting to put it behind them for another time. "Guess we should head down, we can finish up here after." Madison put on a smile, and nodded, pocketing her keys and walking out of the office room. Her mind was still on what Sam said, and it affected her. Madison heard different stories about the Raccoon City Incidence from TV, even the Canadian news covered most of the events in the United States. If it wasnt for it being crammed down her throat everytime she went to her computer, she wouldnt have even known for cared all too much about it.
What really sparked Madison was how Sam was assuming that it was Bio Terrorism. It was like she might have even been there herself. She didnt say those words, she didnt have to. The only survivors she knew about from Raccoon City had made their way into the BSAA, but their personal experiences were never made public. Since TerraSave was her job now, maybe these sorts of answers would come out. Then again, maybe not. Maybe Sam knew things that nobody else did. Clearly this wasnt just a job to her. Though more importantly, Madison was skeptical about getting close to her now, especially if she was going to use her job for sidework, or something.
In the lobby, the hundred and fifty or so people all lined up to enter through the doors into a semi-lip auditorium. The stage was litup, almost like when she was back working at her old highschool. She had no clue what they were going to be talking about, or how long it would even last, even who was actually going to be showing up. Before the place filled up too much, the two grabbed seats at the edge the middle row, and Madison spoke again to clear the air. "A reception is a nicer term for a party. Im not too fun at partys. How about after this we find somewhere quiet." Madison was hoping that Sam didnt think she wanted to talk about earlier. It was just a getaway from the people. At least

Sam gave Madison a smile and nodded, not really feeling up to being in the reception. She really didn't know anyone here, and she was still deciding if she had done something extremely foolish by confiding in Madison. She'd kept it secret long enough, and she didn't see any reason why she should still have to do so. Maybe she would try and explain it to her later, but for now she was just going to let the matter drop.
"We might learn something important, meet some of the people we'll be reporting to. Or we'll just be sitting here listening to boring speeches, either one could happen."
She looked around, not seeing any familiar faces, and waited for the speakers to start coming up. She didn't know the visiting guests were, but she was going to find out soon.
