Andreya looked up at Joe as he turned to follow. "Becareful," she said to Thorton before turning and walking off down the docks. Her head darting around the docks looking for anything out of the ordinary, or anyone that could cause them a problem. Though she really couldn't deal with them like Joe she could always find something to hit them with. "Look," she said pointing down another set of docks to a medium size speed boat with what looked like a cabin. She ran off down the dock toward the boat. Looking it over from the outside it looked to be in rather good condition.
She looked back at Joe who seemed to making sure no one could sneak up on them. Pulling Shocks out of her pocket she sat the small kitten down inside the boat. The black and white pawed animal shaking her paws as she stepped into puddles of water. Andreya made her way over to the concel and looked it over, before turning on the engeen to make sure it had gas. Not satisfied with it she climbed back out of the boat looking at Shocks as she made her way below deck. She smiled before heading over to the gas can's she started looking through them figuring out which ones where the best to take with. She didn't know how far they were from the Harbor, but she didn't want them running out in the middle of the ocean either. Picking up two cans she walked over to the boat and sat them down inside.
"Shocks went below deck," she said looking up at Joe as he walked up. "I picked up two more cans, because the fuel was half empty already. I didn't want us running out on the way home," she pointed out. She climbed into the boat with Joe following after her. Pulling the rope off the dock she pushed it away. "I figured we can meet Thorton at the upper dock that way he doesn't have to run up here," she said as she headed for the cabin. "I'm going to get Shocks so I don't lose her," she said as she headed down the stairs.
She didn't think of anyone hiding away on the boat. Mostly for the fact that animals could sence danger far quicker than a human being. Not to mention you could see the whole inside of the cabin from the windows on the outside. It wasn't very big, just a small kitchen and table. Nothing for anyone to hid in. When she walked down the stairs she didn't see Shocks any where. She looked under the cabnites, but there was no place for her to hide. It was then that she heard the 'mewing' and scratching sound comming from inside one of the cabnites.
Opening it up she seen Shocks just standing there looking up at her. It took her a little longer to process the information that was comming to her. She hated it, and she found it rather annoying when it actually came to school. It was one reason why she always fail behind the students, and had to stay longer to study. Still this came to be one of the moments as the arms wrapped around her, and the hand covered her mouth keeping her from screaming.
She felt the tears streaming down her face as she tried her best to struggle . . . to alert Joe of something going on, but it seemed the more that she struggled the harder it became to breath. She still kicked her feet finally getting them up on the counter, and pushing back hard enough that it caused the man to stumble. "JOE!!!" she screamed as she climbed to her feet, picking up Shocks in one fell swoop. She ran up the stairs just as a shot rang out hitting the wall just as she passed it. She ran up the stairs as another shot was fired hitting the deck behind her, and then a third.

Dzell staggered out of the dust cloud running on pretty much the last orders his head had given the rest of him before the rocket tore it and most of his upper boddy off him. One of the arms hung from a piece of flest still holding the drill. The remaining internals of the monster having little besides a few of the Surgeons tracking devices and a small incendiary bomb for self destruct uses, luckily having not been detonated. The legs eventually gave out and slumped over.
Joe followed the dock after Andreya, checking that noone was hiding around to ambush them again. As he neared the speedboat she picked out he heard a gunshot.
"Thornton! Get to the boat now."
He charged down jumping onboard as Andreya tripped out from below decks, another figure following her up aiming a handgun. Joe reached for his belt, remembering last second that Thornton still had his gear. Thinking fast he swung a leg diagonally upwards, his knee strike knocking the gun, causing a misfire as he did, across the deck as he extended his leg the rest of the way, catching the man in the ribs and knocking him down the stairs.
"I think he's down." As the excitement subsided, Joe suddenly noticed an increasing pain in his shoulder, seeing a pool of blood form on his shirt, he slumped back against the wall. "and me too, I guess."

As soon as Thorton saw the form of the monster tumble down the hill, decimated by the rocket, Thorton abandoned the position and started on his way to the boat. He heard Joe yell and then a gunshot shortly after and began running faster. He got to the boat and tossed his rifle onto the deck, drawing his revolver and scanning the area. He saw Andreya and Joe there, Andreya looking unharmed and Joe on the ground with blood pooling out of his shoulder.
“s***.” Thorton muttered as he dropped to his knee next to Joe. He ripped Joe’s shirt wider at the bullet hole and took a look. Through and through it looked like. Nothing serious. He sighed in relief and reached for a medical pack on his belt. Ripping it open, he started pulling out sterile pads and a pressure wrap.
“Andreya, I need you to draw a shot of morphine.” He said, his voice calm. He didn’t want Joe to start thinking things and fear the worse. “Your gonna be fine.” He said. He knew gunshot wounds. He’d been shot more times than he could remember, but he knew of six different wounds that had actually punctured his armor and injured him. Four of them had been much worse than this, and he was still alive today.

Andreya did as Thorton had asked her. Reaching down inside of his kit and pulling up the vial and syringe. She was use to drawing up medication, because she was use to taking a lot of medication like this. Though with the last couple of years they have gone to other forms and she was more grateful for it. She drew up the syringe and handed it over to Thorton when he asked for it. She stepped back waiting for Thorton to finish. Though she had forgotten completely about the man that Joe had taken down until she felt his hands wrap around her.
He felt his hand moving to cover her mouth, and she did the next best thing. She bit him hard causing him to curse, along with her drawing blood as she did. "b*tch!" he barked. He grabbed her by the neck to pry her lose from his other hand. Gripping her neck hard he cause her to cry out. He pulled out his spare gun and pointed it at Thorton. "Now don't try to pull any crazy moves," he said as he gripped Andreya's neck tighter as he backed up toward the edge of the boat.
Andreya new a few things about saving herself. Mostly for the fact that Thorton had taught her a few moves before she left off for collage. She slammed her foot down hard against the mans ankle causing him to stagger. "Damn it!" he cried before slamming her head against the small side conceal knocking her unconscious. She hit the ground hard as he let go holding both hands now on the gun as he staggered backward toward the edge of the boat.

Thorton had been prepared to say a great many things. Try to convince the lone man that he was better off jumping overboard and taking his risks with the open sea than staying here. Try to reason and make a deal. Try to threaten him enough to scare him into letting her go. A whole list of things came to mind, and all of them disappeared when Andreya was thrown to the side. In the back of his mind he knew it was the worst thing he could have done, but his hand yanked his gun from the deck before he thought it through. A gunshot that didn’t come from him sounded, and he felt the small ping as the chest armor stopped a round.
He brought the weapon to bear in a combat stance, hearing another foreign gunshot and a stab of pain from it. He fired rounds from his weapon from the get go, aiming up as he fired instead of lining up a shot first. Rapid fire gunshots sounded, Thorton and the merc trading the rounds by the second. When both were empty, they both stood there for a moment. Each eyeing the other. The man showed his wounds first. Blood pooled on the ground under him and the pistol dropped from his hand. He fell to the ground and blood pooled quicker. Thorton swayed, determined to confirm the kill and make sure his daughter was safe when his legs gave out under him. He fell to the deck amidst the empty shell casings and dabs of his own blood, content with the way things were. He didn’t think he was dying, just taking a nap. Getting shot always seemed to make him tired.

Andreya came around just in time to see Thorton collapse to the ground. Her eyes grew wide as she sat straight up. She pushed herself to her feet and staggered slightly as she ran to Thorton, falling on her knees as she hit his side. "Daddy!" she cried as she tried shaking him. When she pulled her hand away it was coverd in blood, but she couldn't understand where he had gotten hit. He always wore his body armor, and to her since that fist day they met he was invincible. Always coming out on top, but now he laid on the ground bleeding.
She looked around frantically lost as to what she needed to do. Her eyes red from her tears. She was scared and didn't know what to do. She finally looked at Joe in a pleading manner. "I- I don't know . . . what to do," she said through her tears. She looked down at Thorton her hands gripping his shirt tightly as she looked down at him. "Please wake up," she pleaded as she shook him.

Joe struggled to a standing position as the gunfight ended, rushing over to Thornton and Andreya. Working the straps of the body armour before throwing it aside, he checked the wounds around his torso. They seemed to have been slowed down by the vest mostly, but were still deep enough to bleed badly.
"Andreya, I need you to do something for me. We need to get back to your home and I can't handle a boat with my arm like this. I know this is sounds hard and unfair, but I know you can do it."
He pointed out the ignition and the maps, then the throttle and helm.
"Push this forward to speed up and try to keep steady. Just go in a straight line like this and we'll be back at the base in no time. For now I'm going to help your dad."
Joe grabbed his bag and found his own first aid gear and his knife, it was the only tool thin enough to extract the bullets without expanding the wound.
"Okay, Thornton. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to do a bit of medical work here, if you feel like punching me out we can do that later." He let his bad arm drop near Thorntons hand. "and I don't have much anaethesia so you're going to need to squeeze my arm as hard as you need."
He got to work removing the bullets, putting the knife tip in far enough to stick in the end of the round before removing them, then using gauze coated in some of his herbal mix to clean the wound and dress the bleeding.

Thorton jerked awake at the words he heard, at first from Andreya and then from Joe. He felt the vest loosen and be pulled off his body, felt Joe go to work. His jaw clenched shut as he fought against the pain. Funny. He had been shot many times in his life, and he remembered the pain of each and ever time. He could deal with it better than most people, but it still burned and ached as it always had.
He sucked in a breath through clenched teeth and jerked his eyes shut for a moment. His eyes shot open and he looked around for a moment, gaining lucidity and remembering the last few moments before he passed out. He saw the dead body, saw both of them doing fine. He felt the relief wash over him as he rested his head back on the deck of the ship.
“Don’t worry.” He said out of the blue. “I’ve never punched a doctor in my life.” He said with a smirk. Joe wasn’t a doctor, but Thorton was reasonably sure he wouldn’t punch anyone.

Andreya sniffed as she whipped her eyes. She walked over to the controls and did everything that Joe had showed her how to do. She pulled out her inhaler taking a couple puffs from it before pocketing it again. She pushed forward on the throttel and felt the boat jerk as it took off toward their home. The sun was setting as they crossed what she wanted to believe was the midway point. Ahead of them she could see in the tiny ships sitting out on the ocean. There were only two of them, but she knew who they belonged to.
Ever since Thorton had addopted her she had become family to him, but it wasn't only to him but those who worked on the base with him. It was the General himself who had helped Thorton through out the adoption procedures. Especially since she was a run away to begin with and the fact that she still had family left in Ireland made it difficult. Shew knew that on one of those two ships stood the General himself. Andreya smiled as she realized that they would be able to get Thorton help sooner than she thought.
Though the happy thought would be short lived as a loud explosion rocked the small speed boat causing water to soak the occupents. She looked back at a small ship that was moving face. There was another explosion causing the boat to rock even more. Andreya clutched tightly to the wheel of the boat as she kept it going full speed to the Navy ships. The third explosion made her ears ring, and made everything around her seem like it was moving in slow motion. It had landed just to the right of her position. She was panting heavily scared to death, her chest hurting, and her eyes burning to begin with. Now her ears were ringing and her head was hurting.
But when she looked back at Thorton and Joe she kept going. There was another explosion, but it wasn't anywhere near them. When Andreya looked back she seen the other ship retreating. Andreya turned to look at the Navey vessels as both ships fired off two more rounds both mission the other ship, but providing a good enough warning. Andreya finally forced herself to calm down long enough to pull the small boat to a stop.
A long ladder made it's way down as several people climbed down to their boat including the General himself. Andreya instantly rushed to him and wrapped her arms around him and started crying. One man took the helm and started navigating the boat back to shore while two more with medical equipment took on looking at Joe and Thorton. "Next time Johnson, try to include me on what is going on," the General spoke as he helped Andreya with her inhaler.

As Joe finished up dressing Thorntons wounds he was thrown back by the rocking of the boat due to the explosions.
"I'm hoping that was just a rough wave?" A second explosion dashed those hopes. "Then in that case I want to complain about how one sided everything has been."
The military boats soon detered their pursuers and the General led several soldiers onto the boat. A pair of medics headed over to Thornton and Joe. One noticing the dog tags Joe was still wearing.
"Thornton Johnson sir? You're different from what we were told."
"Pardon? Oh, these." Joe slipped the tags off. "Hey Thornton, I don't think I want to be you anymore, no offense, but you get shot at a little too much for my taste." He nodded off soon after from blood loss.

“You’ll get used to it.” Thorton said, his head leaning back and resting on the deck. He was dreading the climb up the ladder, but he wasn’t going to let them try and lift him onto the ship. Andreya and Joe needed that more than he did.
He laid back as the medics worked the straps on his vest, finally opening it and carefully lifting it over. They could see the bullet wounds already, and counted him lucky. All were toward the sides of his body, where the armor plates separated and became flexible Kevlar. They cleared him to be moved, and he hauled himself to his feet quickly with their help. He stood for a moment and fought the urge to double over in pain, knowing it would be even more painful to stand up straight again. Breathing in sharply, he looked at the general and raised his hand in a salute.
“There wasn’t time, Sir.” He said. He was sure the General would understand, even if it couldn’t be swept under the rug. Hell, if this went to court marshal, worst he’d get was theft of property. He was technically on leave, so he wasn’t AWOL. If it went to court marshal, worst case scenario was he’d end up with a dishonorable discharge. As it was, he was thinking of retirement. His current contract was up in a few months, but he didn’t know if he wanted to leave. If it came down to it, he would if he had to. For one reason or another.

Andreya smiled a little when she heared Thorton's voice. It made her feel better inside, still she felt like screaming again when she looked over to him, and the blood that pooled around him. She felt the tears in her eyes and looked up at the General. He patted her head as he stood up looking at the approaching dock. "Johnson, where going to make your pain just brief seeing as your up." He walked over to the small dock as two scratchers were brought down. "Climb up and sit down," he said with a slight order in his voice. Two more men stepped down into the boat to help with Joe, and the General went back for Andreay.
When they both arrived at the back of the ambulance that Thorton was being loaded in, Andreya looked a bit better than she had before the boat ride. "Andreya's going to ride with me to the hospital," he informed Thorton so that he wouldn't worry.
"Be okay," Andreya said lightly as she waved to Thorton. She watched as the door shut, and both unites drove away. They then walked to the larger Humvee where the General drove Andreya to the hospital taking a slight detour so that she could eat, and feed the kitten in which one of the soldiers had managed to hunt down. She also picked up a couple of cards, and then they made their way to the hospital where she would wait in the waiting room till Joe and Thorton where stable enough to be put into their rooms.

Joe stirred as the medical team lifted him onto the stretcher and moved him onto the second boat. He slipped in and out of awareness, catching brief snippets of various conversations, Andreya talking with Thornton and the General, a few medics diagnosing his wound and giving him a quick prep for the surgery and the ambulance crew talking as they drove him to the hospital.
"You'll be okay buddy, blood loss is just tiring you out."
He clenched his eyes shut as they rolled the stretcher down a hallway, the lights in the ceiling blazing down on him, after a few doors and more parts of dialogue he had a mask put over him, the anesthetic putting him in a deep sleep while the doctors worked. After a routine operation the bullet was removed and the bleeding stopped. Joe was moved into another room and allowed to continue sleeping, one of the doctors leaving the bullet in a specimen jar on the bedside table.

Thorton had passed out sometime in the ambulance, his vital signs stable all the way to surgery. They were all safe, he didn’t have to keep looking over his shoulder anymore for mercenaries or monsters. Something about that fact relaxed him. Enough so that he simply drifted off to sleep. He awoke several hours later, in a hospital bed hooked up to an IV and heart monitor. The last time he’d had one of those on his chest he ripped it off and was greeted at the door by a team of doctors and a crash cart. He won the verbal battle and got his discharge papers a week early.
He left the monitor alone and instead reached for the call button. Pressing it once, he waited patiently for the nurse. A young woman came through the door, smiling at him and asked if he needed anything.
“I want to talk to my daughter.” He said. She told him Andreya was out in the waiting room and offered to go get her, if he promised to keep her there for only a few minutes. Thorton lied to her face and promised Andreya would be gone in five minutes, the nurse smiling and going off to get her.

Andreya walked into the room slowly. Her eyes glancing all around the room before falling on Thorton. She instantly felt the tears in her eyes again, before she ran up to him wrapping her arms around him and started crying. "I'm so sorry," she cried and chocked on her tears. "I'm so sorry for everything," she continued to cry. Her hands gripping the groun that he wore. It took her a moment to realize what she was doing, and she backed away from him. Wiping the tears from her face she looked at Thorton and then to Joe, and back to Thorton. "I'm sorry," she said lightly.
"I didn't want to cause anyone any trouble, or get anyone hurt. Especially you," she said as she looked at Thorton. She reached down into her pocket pulling out Shocks, and setting it on his bed. "I got you and Joe a card," she said handing the cards over. "I know they can't express how much I'm sorry for all the trouble I've caused you," she said as she looked down at the ground. "But thank you so much for saving me," she said. Looking back at Thorton she smiled a little letting her tears stream down her cheeks. "Thank you for being the best father I've ever had," she said lightly.
